Begin your trek at Umbwe Gate, where you will meet your experienced guides and porters. The trail ascends steeply through a pristine rainforest, with dense vegetation and towering trees creating a magical atmosphere. As you climb, marvel at the vibrant flora and fauna unique to this region, including colorful birds and playful monkeys. Arrive at Umbwe Cave Camp (2,850m) for your first night on the mountain, surrounded by the serenity of nature.
Today’s trek takes you out of the rainforest and onto a dramatic ridge offering spectacular views of Kilimanjaro’s southern glaciers. The trail becomes steeper and more rugged as you enter the moorland zone, adorned with giant lobelias and groundsels. Reach Barranco Camp (3,900m), situated in a stunning valley beneath the towering Barranco Wall. Take in the awe-inspiring scenery and prepare for the challenges ahead.
Tackle the iconic Barranco Wall, a steep rock face that requires some light scrambling and careful footing. As you ascend, enjoy panoramic views of the surrounding peaks and valleys, making every step worthwhile. The trail continues through undulating terrain in the alpine desert, eventually reaching Karanga Camp (4,035m). Rest and acclimatize in this peaceful setting, taking in the majestic views of the mountain’s upper slopes.
Set out on a gradual ascent toward Barafu Camp (4,640m), the final base before your summit push. The trail winds through a stark, rocky landscape with stunning vistas of Mawenzi and Kibo peaks. Upon arrival, rest and prepare for your midnight climb to the summit, fueled by the excitement of nearing your goal. Enjoy an early dinner and an unforgettable sunset over the plains of Tanzania.
Begin your summit attempt in the early hours, navigating the challenging switchbacks and icy terrain under a blanket of stars. Reach Stella Point (5,756m) just as the sun begins to rise, casting golden hues across the mountain. Push onward to Uhuru Peak (5,895m), the highest point in Africa, where you’ll celebrate your incredible achievement. Descend to Mweka Camp (3,080m)
Enjoy a leisurely descent through the lush rainforest, soaking in the final moments of your Kilimanjaro adventure. Arrive at Mweka Gate, where you will receive your summit certificates before bidding farewell to your trekking team. Transfer back to Arusha/Moshi for a well-deserved rest or continue to Kilimanjaro International Airport for your departure, marking the end of an extraordinary journey.
