Day By Day Description

Day 1: Machame Gate to Machame Camp

Begin your trek at Machame Gate (1,800m), where lush montane rainforests greet you with vibrant flora and fauna. As you ascend through the forest, the path opens up to reveal spectacular views and the fresh scent of nature. After approximately 5-7 hours of trekking, arrive at Machame Camp (2,835m), nestled in a clearing with stunning views of Mount Kilimanjaro. Enjoy a hearty dinner under the stars as you prepare for the journey ahead.

Day 2: Machame Camp to Shira Camp

Wake up to the crisp mountain air and a nourishing breakfast before heading towards Shira Camp (3,750m). Today’s trek offers a mix of terrain, transitioning from lush forest to the unique moorland zone. Marvel at the dramatic landscapes, with giant lobelias and senecios dotting the trail. After 4-6 hours, reach Shira Camp, where panoramic views of Kibo Peak will leave you in awe.

Day 3: Shira Camp to Barranco Camp via Lava Tower

This acclimatization day is crucial for your summit success. Trek to Lava Tower (4,600m), a volcanic rock formation offering a perfect spot to rest and adjust to the altitude. Afterward, descend to Barranco Camp (3,960m), passing through the scenic valley filled with towering cliffs and surreal landscapes. The day’s 6-8-hour trek ensures your body adapts while showcasing the route’s diverse beauty.

Day 4: Barranco Camp to Karanga Camp

Conquer the famed Barranco Wall, a thrilling challenge rewarded with breathtaking views of the glacier-carved valleys. The trail then winds through the Karanga Valley, a serene and picturesque spot surrounded by towering peaks. After 4-5 hours, arrive at Karanga Camp (4,035m), where the sunset paints the sky in hues of gold and orange. Relax and recharge for the next ascent.

Day 5: Karanga Camp to Barafu Camp

Embark on a shorter but steeper trek to Barafu Camp (4,640m), the launch point for your summit attempt. Pass through the alpine desert, where the stark beauty of the landscape reflects the ruggedness of the adventure. After 3-4 hours, settle into camp, prepare your gear, and rest early for the midnight climb to Uhuru Peak. The anticipation builds as you approach the pinnacle of your journey.

Day 6: Barafu Camp to Uhuru Peak to Mweka Camp

Begin your summit push under the starry sky, ascending steadily to Stella Point (5,745m) before reaching Uhuru Peak (5,895m) at sunrise. Celebrate your incredible achievement at the highest point in Africa, with unparalleled views stretching as far as the eye can see. Descend to Barafu Camp for a brief rest, then continue to Mweka Camp (3,080m) through lush vegetation, completing a challenging but exhilarating 12-16-hour day.

Day 7: Mweka Camp to Mweka Gate – Airport Drop-Off

Enjoy a leisurely descent through the lush rainforest, soaking in the final moments of your Kilimanjaro adventure. Arrive at Mweka Gate, where you will receive your summit certificates before bidding farewell to your trekking team. Transfer back to Arusha/Moshi for a well-deserved rest or continue to Kilimanjaro International Airport for your departure, marking the end of an extraordinary journey.
